The "Quintet n ° 1 for four aerophones and piano on a pentatonic scale" was composed in 1993. The combination of woodwind and bronze (oboe, clarinet, bassoon, flute) is a daring idea, showing us once again on the diversity of the composer's writing and musical language.
One of Vietnam's leading musicians of orchestral works, composer Hoang Van is very interested in the creation of works for each instrument in the symphony orchestra. These include the "Elephant pulling wood in the forest" for bassoon in 1969 and "Mélodie d 'amour" for saxophone and piano in 1988, or "Hoa thơm bướm lượn" (Flowers and butterflies) for flute and piano.
This score, probably unpublished, has just been found three years after his death, we hope to be able to hear it played soon by the best soloists of Vietnam.
